Incognito has been at the center of a furor over the profane and racially tinged voice mail that Martin said was traumatic enough for him to leave the Dolphins.
In an interview with Fox Sports aired Sunday, Incognito, who is white, said he was "embarrassed" by the voice mail for its vulgar locker room tone. "But to judge me by that one word alone is wrong."
Incognito insisted he considered Martin a friend and solid teammate and did not see any indication that Martin was under any particularly high level of stress.
Incognito declined to say Martin overreacted to the tongue lashing. "I can't sit here and tell you who overreacted, who did what; I can just sit here and be accountable for my actions," he said. "And my actions were coming from a place of love. No matter how bad and how vulgar it sounds, that's how we communicate, that's how our friendship was, and those are the facts and that's what I'm accountable for."
