DENVER, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Colorado's Semyon Varlamov stopped 33-of-34 shots Sunday and the surging Avalanche stayed hot with a 4-1 victory over Washington.
Varlamov made 15 of his saves in the second period, enabling Colorado to grab a 2-1 lead on Nick Holden's first goal of the season.

Gabriel Landeskog recorded a goal and an assist, while Patrick Bordeleau and P.A. Parenteau also scored as the Avalanche improved to 14-2-0 on the season.
Joel Ward scored and Braden Holtby made 33 saves for the Capitals, who dropped both games of a Western Conference road trip.
