SACRAMENTO, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Next year's Amgen Tour of California bicycle race will start in Sacramento and end in Thousand Oaks in the southern part of the state, it was announced Tuesday.

The Tour of California is the largest cycling race in the country and will cover more than 700 miles May 11-18.

AEG, the organizer of the event, said in a written statement the race would pass through 11 host cities, including San Jose, Santa Barbara and Pasadena.

"We are confident our worldwide audience will enjoy everything next year's race has to offer -- from epic climbs to rolling hills and thrilling finishes by sea, it's a testament to California's iconic terrain," said Kristin Bachochin, executive director of the Tour of California.

The first day will start and finish in Sacramento with individual time trials the next day in Folsom. The eighth and final stage will be held in Thousand Oaks, the home base of race sponsor Amgen.
