NHL: Phoenix 3, Vancouver 2 (SO)

GLENDALE, Ariz., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Antoine Vermette's goal in the sixth round of the shootout was the difference in the Phoenix Coyotes' 3-2 win over visiting Vancouver Tuesday.

Vermette squeaked the puck past under the skate of Roberto Luongo for a point that stood up when Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith turned aside the dangerous Henrik Sedin in Vancouver's final try.

Smith finished the night with 31 saves. Shane Doan and Radim Vrbata scored in regulation for the Coyotes, who won their sixth consecutive home game. Doan's slapshot goal at 17:39 of the third period deadlocked the game 2-2 and set the stage for the shootout win.

Luongo made 30 saves for the Canucks, who lost for the second time in seven games. Dan Hamhuis and Ryan Kesler scored in regulation for the visitors.
