Secret Circle, a 4-year-old Eddington colt, parked behind the early leaders in the 6-furlong dash over the Santa Anita main track. He swung very wide into the stretch and powered to the lead, then went all out to hold on by a neck while drifting in.
Secret Circle was clocked in 1:08.73 as Gentlemen's Bet finished third and long shot Majestic Stride settled for fourth.
It was the second win on the Breeders' Cup card for the trainer-rider combination of Bob Baffert and Martin Garcia.
Secret Circle won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint last fall at Santa Anita. Baffert stretched him out in an effort to get to the Kentucky Derby and the colt finished second in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. He then was sidelined until Oct. 14, when he won his return race over the Santa Anita track. Since then, he had been burning up the track in morning workouts.
"Bobby [Baffert] did a great job getting him here after the layoff," part-owner Paul Weitma said. "One race and we're here. We're thrilled."
