MEMPHIS, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Marc Gasol saved the game in regulation Friday and Memphis pulled away late in the overtime period to outlast Detroit 111-108.
Gasol scored five of his 15 points in the last 42 seconds of the fourth period and his tip-in with 8 seconds left created a 95-95 tie. Memphis then survived a missed 3-point attempt at the regulation buzzer by Chauncey Billups.
Will Bynum hit a 3-pointer for Detroit as time expired with the game having already been decided.
The victory was the first for David Joerger as head coach of the Grizzlies, who dropped their opener to San Antonio.
