LONDON, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Roger Federer moves within one match victory of qualifying for the ATP's World Tour Finals.

Federer was runner-up to Juan Martin del Potro in Sunday's final of the Swiss Indoors. Federer has won the event five times and has been second five times. He has been in the finals of the tournament, which is played in his home town, each of the last eight years, going 5-3 in that span.

If Federer had beaten del Potro -- del Potro won 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-4 -- he would have locked up the sixth spot in the eight-player Tour Finals. Five of the spots have been claimed and Federer is next in the standings.

If he wins his second-round match at the BNP Paris Masters, he's in. If he doesn't he has to wait to see how those behind him in the standings fare. The Paris Masters is the last event before the Tour Finals.

The next players in line are: Stanislas Wawrinka, Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The tournament title for del Potro was his 17th ATP championship with four coming this year. It didn't affect his ranking, however, leaving him fifth.

The other ATP tournament last week went to Mikhail Youzhny, who beat defending champion David Ferrer in the Valencia Open final. It was Youzhny's second title this year and 10th over a 15-year professional career. He moves to 15th in the rankings, his highest placing since August 2011.

No. 4-ranked Andy Murray, who is out with a back injury, is the only player among the Top 19 not entered into the Paris Masters.

The ATP Top 10 listing player's name, home country and rankings points:

1. Rafael Nadal, Spain, 11,670

2. Novak Djokovic, Serbia, 11,120

3. David Ferrer, Spain, 6,600

4. Andy Murray, Great Britain, 6,280

5. Juan Martin del Potro, Argentina, 5,365

6. Roger Federer, Switzerland, 4,245

7. Tomas Berdych, Czech Republic, 4,180

8. Stanislas Wawrinka, Switzerland, 3,240

9. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, France, 3,235

10. Richard Gasquet, France, 3,130
