Vettel wins pole for Indian Grand Prix

GREATER NOIDA, India, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull will make his bid to clinch the Formula One season title from the pole position at Sunday's Indian Grand Prix.

Vettel claimed the coveted first starting position Saturday with a qualifying lap of 1 minute, 24.119 seconds.

Nico Rosberg of Mercedes took the second spot on the starting grid with a 1:24.871. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton qualified third.

Vettel can win the season title with a fifth place or better in Sunday's race. Vettel has won the pole at the Indian Grand Prix the past three years and has won four consecutive F1 races.
