DETROIT, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Derick Brassard scored on a breakaway with 13 seconds remaining in overtime Saturday, handing the New York Rangers a 3-2 win over Detroit.

On the winning play, Benoit Pouliot dove at the red line to poke the puck ahead to Brassard, who came in all alone on Jimmy Howard and used a forehand shot to the stick side for the game-ending goal.

Pouliot scored in the second period and Mats Zuccarello tied the score 2-2 with a third-period tally for the Rangers, who wrapped up a season opening nine-game road trip with a 3-6-0 record.

Cameron Talbot stopped 32-of-34 shots in his first career NHL victory for New York.

Daniel Alfredsson and Drew Miller each scored for the struggling Red Wings, who dropped a fourth straight.

Howard finished with 37 saves.
