The Blue Jackets put together a four-goal final period to win their third in a row after capturing just two of their first seven this season. Toronto went into the game tied for the most points in the Eastern Conference at 14.
Gaborik broke a 1-1 deadlock 3:12 into the final stanza and the Blue Jackets expanded their lead to 3-1 on a shorthanded goal by Brandon Dubinsky with 7:33 to go in regulation.
Toronto's Dave Bolland scored his fourth of the year with 4:30 left to give the Maple Leafs a chance, but Columbus ended those hopes with goals by Ryan Johnson and Nick Foligno in the last 30 seconds.
The opening Columbus goal came from Ryan Murray 4:55 into the contest. It was the first score of his 10-game NHL career. Phil Kessel tied it a mere 40 seconds into the middle period.
