DENVER, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Two goals from Matt Duchene Friday helped Colorado improve on the best record in the NHL with a 4-2 victory over Carolina.

Colorado won its third in a row and has captured nine of its 10 games this season.

Duchene scored on a wraparound shot with 2:27 to go in the first period to give Colorado a 2-0 lead and his power-play goal 36 seconds into the third put the Avalanche in front 4-1.

Erik Johnson and Alex Tanguay also scored for Colorado, which has allowed only 14 goals in its 10 contests.

Slap shots by Drayson Bowman in the second period and Andrej Sekera in the third produced Carolina's scores.

Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves to collect the win. Carolina's Justin Peters stopped 30-of-34 shots.
