SHANGHAI, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Luke Guthrie used a 1-under-par 71 Friday to push his lead to four strokes at the European Tour's BMW Masters in Shanghai.
Windy conditions made consistent play tough at the Lake Malaren Golf Club as indicated by Guthrie's round of five birdies and four bogeys. He's at 8-under 136 for the tournament.
Six players are tied for second at 4-under. They include Richard Gonzalez, whose 18th-hole bogey was the only blemish on a 5-under 67, and Scott Jamison, who also bogeyed 18 in shooting 68. Paul Casey, Simon Dyson, Thongchai Jaidee and Craig Lee all turned in second-round 70s for their share of second.
John Daly, who has in second after a 68 Thursday, was 2-over 74 Friday and dropped to a tie for ninth while Peter Uihlein, who started the day in third, had a 75 and is tied for 19th, eight strokes behind Guthrie.
Guthrie opened the second round with a birdie at the first hole and had his first bogey of the tournament at the fifth hole. A birdie at 7 allowed him to make the turn at 1-under.
His second nine was a mixed bag of bogeys at Nos. 10, 12 and 18, birdies at 11, 15 and 17 and three pars.
