Jockey Calvin Borel out 3-4 weeks after leg fracture

LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Jockey Calvin Borel will be out of action for three to four weeks after fracturing his fibula at the Keeneland race track in Lexington, Ky., his agent said.

Borel, 46 -- the winning rider in the Kentucky Derby in 2007, 2009 and 2010, and the Preakness Stakes in 2009 -- broke his left leg in a spill in Wednesday's sixth race, the (Louisville) Courier-Journal reported Thursday. Borel's mount, Sonic Dancer, collapsed 1/8 mile out of the starting gate and had to be out down due to leg fractures.

Borel -- a member of the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame -- was discharged Wednesday evening from the University of Kentucky Medical Center, his agent, Jerry Hissam, said. Borel's wife, Lisa, posted on her Facebook page Wednesday that Borel did not suffer a concussion, as previously reported.

The race was declared a no-contest.
