Austyn Caneo's 192nd goal sets high school field hockey record

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- High school field hockey star Austyn Cuneo of Eastern High School in Voorhees, N.J., is the new national record-holder for career goals scored.

The junior's second goal, of three, in an 11-0 defeat of Cherry Hill East in Cherry Hill, N.J., Thursday brought her total to 192, beating the record set in 2012 by nearby Florence High School's Lexi Smith, who is now attending The College of New Jersey, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.

"It's done. We can relax. We can just play the rest of the season without having to worry," Cuneo said after the game.

With her record goal, scored with 22:37 remaining in the first half, the game was stopped for an on-field celebration. Her teammates sprinted onto the field, carrying balloons reading "192," the newspaper said.

"I cried tears of joy and tears of relief," said her coach, Danyle Heilig. "It's an amazing accomplishment, especially at the point she is in her career."
