Browns turn to Jason Campbell at quarterback

BEREA, Ohio, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Jason Campbell was named the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when they go against the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs this week.

Campbell, 31, is the third player to start at quarterback this season. Brandon Weeden opened the season as the starter but Brian Hoyer took over the third week when Weeden was injured.

Hoyer suffered a torn knee ligament in the fifth week of the season and Weeden returned to the starting job. A loss Sunday to Green Bay dropped Weeden to 0-4 on the year as a starter, however, and led to the switch to Campbell.

Campbell signed with Cleveland last spring and appeared in six games for Chicago last season. Campbell was a 2005 draft choice of the Washington Redskins, with whom he played five seasons. He then was with the Oakland Raiders for two years before joining Chicago.

Campbell has played in 78 NFL games, starting at quarterback 71 times. He's completed 1,329-of-2,186 passes for 14,688 yards and 76 touchdowns. He's been intercepted 52 times.

The Browns, 3-4 and tied for second in the AFC North, travel to Kansas City, Mo., to meet the 7-0 Chiefs. Kansas City leads the NFL with 35 sacks this season.
