STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Benoit Paire ousted second-seeded Milos Raonic in Friday's quarterfinal action at the ATP's If Stockholm Open in Sweden.
Paire, seeded sixth, came away a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 winner over Raonic by recording the only break of the second set. Raonic had eight break-point chances but only finished off one. Paire was 3-for-3 in break-point saves in the second set.
Fifth-seeded Ernests Gulbis also pulled off a small upset, defeating third-seeded Jerzy Janowicz 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 with the only break of the third set. Gulbis lost only five of the 25 points on serve in the final set.
No. 7-seed Grigor Dimitrov beat Kenny De Schepper 6-4, 6-2 in 67 minutes without facing a break point. Dimitrov won 84 percent -- 36-of-43 -- of the points when serving and converted three of his seven break chances.
Ferrer draws Gulbis in the first semifinal Saturday. Ferrer won their only previous meeting, a match back in 2007. Paire takes a 1-0 career edge over Dimitrov into their semifinal.
