NHL: Buffalo 3, New York Islanders 2 (SO)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Tyler Ennis scored and added a shootout game-winner Tuesday, sparking Buffalo to its first win over the season, 3-2 over the New York Islanders.

The Sabres were trailing 3-2 with 2:01 left in regulation when Marcus Foligno put a long shot past Islanders goaltender Evgeni Nabokov, who was partially screened on the play.

The two teams battled through a scoreless overtime and then went to a shootout, where New York's Matt Moulson and Buffalo's Thomas Vanek traded tallies in the first round.

Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller stopped Frans Nielsen in the next round, and Ennis followed with the key score.

Miller (41 saves) then secured the Sabres' initial victory with a final save on John Tavares.

Vanek also scored in regulation for Buffalo, which improved to 0-6-1.

Nielsen, Moulson and Matt Martin each scored and Nabokov finished with 31 saves for the Islanders.
