BEIJING, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Lakers visited the Great Wall of China and were greeted like way more than typical tall tourists.
The Lakers spent two hours at a section of the wall that generally draws smaller crowds of visitors, but the Los Angeles Times said they were quickly recognized by autograph seekers and vendors, who pointed out their great line of extra-large T-shirts.
"This is intense," Pao Gasol told the newspaper. "The fans are very forward here. Everything is a little different. But it's nice to be appreciated and see this much emotion and excitement."
The team's security entourage, in fact, instructed the team not to loiter too long in one place lest they become trapped by the crowds.
The visit was a mandatory event for the players, who made the long trans-Pacific flight to Beijing this weekend and were on the court for a quick practice Sunday morning prior to being whisked away to the Great Wall.
The Times noted that the Golden State Warriors also practiced Saturday, but were excused from the sightseeing and presumably enjoyed some welcome rest.
The two teams will play exhibition games Tuesday in Beijing and Friday in Shanghai.
