NHL: Columbus 4, Buffalo 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Marian Gaborik finished off a three-goal first period Thursday that vaulted Columbus to a 4-1 victory over Buffalo.

The Sabres remained winless in five games to start the season, having totaled just five goals.

Gaborik assisted on a goal by Cam Atkinson 1:51 into the contest, Nick Foligno put Columbus in front for good with 3:25 left in the opening period and Gaborik scored his second of the campaign with 1:12 to go.

Brandon Dubinsky's backhander closed out the scoring early in the second period. The Blue Jackets have won two of their three outings.

Sergei Bobrovsky turned in his second straight solid performance by limiting the Sabres to a goal on 27 shots.

All four Columbus goals came against Ryan Miller, who made 29 saves.
