PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Brayden Schenn and Braydon Coburn each scored a first-period goal Tuesday and Philadelphia held on to down Florida 2-1 in new Coach Craig Berube's debut.
The Flyers opened the scoring 4:49 into the game when Jakob Voracek's shot rebounded off the end boards straight to Schenn in the slot, who sent it home for a quick goal.
Coburn doubled the advantage less the 3 minutes later when his long wrist shot from above the right circle caught Panthers netminder Tim Thomas out of position.
The 39-year-old goaltender dove awkwardly on the play and left the game with lower-body injury after surrendering two goals on five shots.
Brad Boyes scored and backup goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped all 25 shots he faced for Florida, which dropped to 1-2-0.
