Kevin Harvick wins at Kansas Speedway, moves up in Chase standings

KANSAS CITY, Kan., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Kevin Harvick logged his third victory of the season, outpacing Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon to claim Sunday's Chase for the Sprint Cup event in Kansas.

Pole-sitter Harvick led for 138 laps then held off late challenges from Busch and Gordon down the stretch for his 22nd career triumph on the Sprint Cup circuit. He moved up to third in the Chase standings with the win, 25 points off the pace of leader Matt Kenseth.

Busch and Gordon remained in the hunt for the title with their results, while Joey Logano and Carl Edwards rounded out the Top 5 at Kansas Speedway, where the caution flag came out 15 times.

They were followed in sixth by Jimmie Johnson -- second in the Chase standings -- who cut Kenseth's advantage from eight to three points with Sunday's run.

Kenseth settled for an 11th-place showing.

Losing ground, however, was Kyle Busch, who crashed late in the race and finished 34th while dropping from third to fifth in points.
