Tursunov managed two more breaks in the third set but couldn't counter the three that Berlocq was able to finish off.

Lukas Rosol also advanced, taking out Julien Benneteau 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Rosol lost his serve twice in the second set but saved all three break points he faced in the first and third sets.

Florian Mayer, winning more than 70 percent of the points on serve, came away a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Wu Di. Pablo Andujar gained a spot in the second round when, after Andujar took a 5-2 lead, Mikhail Youzhny retired with an injury.
