PARIS, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- David Lynn and Scott Jamison closed fast for a win Friday that pulled Great Britain and Ireland to within one point of Continental Europe in the Seve Cup.

The 1-up win by Lynn and Jamison over Francesco Molinari and Matteo Manassero allowed the GBI team cut the Continental Europe's team lead to 5 1/2-4 1/2 going into the weekend.

Friday's five contests were fourball matches. There are two sessions of four foursomes scheduled for Saturday.

Molinari and Manassero were 2-up through six holes and still held that lead going into the 14th hole. But Lynn birdied 14 and a 17th-hole birdie by Jamieson squared the match. Jamieson added a 6-foot birdie putt at 18 to grab the point for GBI.

Paul Casey and Simon Kahn posted a 3-and-2 win over Mikko Ilonen and Thorbjorn Olesen and Jamie Donaldson teamed with Marc Warren for a 4-and-2 victory over Thomas Bjorn and Miguel Angel Jimenez for the other GBI points Friday.

Nicolas Colsaerts and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano posted a 6-and-5 win over Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher but Joost Luiten and Gregory Bourdy's 1-up CE win over Tommy Fleetwood and Chris Wood only happened after Fleetwood missed a 6-foot birdie putt on 18.

The Seve Trophy is a biennial event in which a team of golfers from Continental Europe takes on a team from Great Britain and Ireland. Continental Europe won the inaugural tournament in 2000 but the GBI team has won the last six, including a 15 1/2-12 1/2 win in 2011.
