Ex-Yankee Chad Curtis sentenced for sex assaults on high school girls

HASTINGS, Mich., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Former major league baseball player Chad Curtis was sentenced in Michigan Thursday to at least seven years in prison for sexually assaulting teenage girls.

Curtis, 44, was found guilty in August on six counts of criminal sexual conduct. His victims, all teenage girls, alleged he inappropriately touched them in 2012 at Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa, Mich., where he was a substitute teacher and coach, WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, reported.

He was sentenced to a minimum of seven years and one month, and a maximum of 15 years and five months in prison in Barry County, Mich., Circuit Court.

Curtis played for six major league teams, including the New York Yankees, in his 10-year career. He retired in 2001, the Michigan news website Mlive.com said.
