FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork had his torn right Achilles' tendon successfully repaired in a procedure Tuesday, his wife said.

While the Patriots have yet to publicly disclose the nature of the injury, Wilfork's wife, Bianca, wrote on Twitter the lineman had undergone the surgery with a positive result.

The five-time Pro Bowl selection was injured in Sunday's 30-23 Patriots victory at Atlanta.

New England Coach Bill Belichick would only confirm Wilfork would be out for an extended period.

The Patriots will likely add him to the injured reserve list after he had recorded nine tackles through the season's first four games.
