SEATTLE, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Tim Cahill scored the equalizer in the 76th minute Sunday, hoisting the first-place New York Red Bulls into a 1-1 tie with Seattle.

The Australian evened the score with a curling shot that found its way inside the far post as the Red Bulls (15-9-7) finished the weekend with a four-point lead over Sporting Kansas City atop the Eastern Conference.

The point split also allowed them to remain one point ahead of the Sounders and Real Salt Lake for the overall MLS points lead at 52.

Seattle, however, has two games in hand on New York.

Brad Evans scored in the 54th minute for the Sounders (15-8-7).
