ST. LOUIS, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Joe Kelly pitched 5 1/3 scoreless relief innings for the win Sunday and playoff-bound St. Louis ended the regular season with a 4-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Kelly (10-5) allowed three hits and struck out five.

He was backed by RBI from Jon Jay, Daniel Descalso, Shane Robinson and Tony Cruz for the NL Central champion Cardinals, who finished the season at 97-65.

They now go on to host the National League Divisional Series against the winner of Tuesday's NL Wild Card between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija (8-13) took the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits over six innings.

Chicago (66-96) ended with six losses in seven games.
