LA PORTE, Ind., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A 17-year-old high school football player from Indiana died after collapsing during practice, officials said.

The La Porte High School student, whose name was not reported, died Wednesday, the La Porte (Ind.) Herald Argus reported.

"Every now and then you hear of a student athlete dying," said La Porte County Coroner John Sullivan. "We really don't know the circumstances yet."

An autopsy will be performed on the teenager Thursday.

The football team has a game scheduled for Friday. It was not reported whether the game would be postponed. A freshman football game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed by the high school to Saturday.
