ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings President Mark Wilf said Wednesday his family plans to appeal the $85 million a judge awarded their former partners in a real estate project.
Wilf told reporters Wednesday at a training facility outside London, where the NFL team was getting ready to play a rare overseas game, that the judgment will not affect the family's ability to pay their share of a new $975 million stadium, the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press reported.
New Jersey Superior Court Judge Deanne Wilson found that Wilf, his brother, Zygi, and their cousin, Leonard, defrauded Ada Reichmann of Toronto and Josef Halpern of New York of their share of profits from an apartment complex constructed in Montville, N.J., in the 1980s. They were ordered to pay $52 million to Reichmann and $33 million to her brother, including damages, court costs and interest.
"Certainly we disagree with the judge's ruling and it's something we plan to appeal," Wilf said. "That's really the only public comment I can make on it given it's an ongoing legal matter. But I think the important thing for everyone here is it doesn't affect, one iota, our commitment and our ability to conclude negotiations and moving on to getting the stadium done and opened in the fall of 2016."
