Shortstop Elvis Andrus and pitchers Derek Holland and Joe Nathan will make donations to the South Arlington Little League, as will the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Chris Carroll, owner of the local Spring Creek Barbecue restaurant chain, after more than $20,000 was allegedly embezzled from the league, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.
Former league board president Claudia Yamell Castillo, 34, was arrested by Arlington police last week and charged with theft of more than $20,000. The league's fall season was canceled, the newspaper said.
The Rangers will make a pre-game presentation to the league's players in a ceremony at their game Wednesday, and have provided the league with 500 complimentary tickets.
"It was a no-brainer, once I learned what it was for," Nathan said, calling it an "opportunity to get the boys on the field."
