HARRISON, N.J., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- An own-goal by FC Dallas midfielder Erick in the 76th minute provided the difference Sunday in the New York Red Bulls' 1-0 victory.

The game was scoreless until Erick put the ball into his own net as he was attempting to clear away a cross from New York's Jonny Steele.

The victory gave Eastern Conference-leading New York (15-9-6) a one-point advantage over Seattle in the race for the best mark in the league.

Dallas (10-9-10) remained mired in eighth place in the West, five points out of the final playoff spot.
