Jovanovski opens WTA 125 series tournament with win

NINGBO, China, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Bojana Jovanovski opened the WTA's 125 Series tournament in Ningbo, China, with a straight-set win Sunday.

Jovanovski defeated Virginie Razzano 6-3, 6-2 by taking two-thirds of the points on serve and half the points when receiving serve. She ended up with four breaks in Razzano's eight serving games.

Anna Schmiedlova ousted sixth-seeded Karolina Pliskova -- the only other seeded player on Sunday's schedule -- 6-3, 6-3 by finishing off five of six break point chances.

Also Sunday, Shahar Peer was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Sharon Fichman while Vesna Dolonc topped Olga Govortsova 6-0, 6-4. Johanna Larsson posted a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision over Petra Martic and Anabel Medina Garrigues beat Zhang Yuxuan 6-3, 6-2.
