MLS: Portland 1, Colorado 0

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Diego Valeri scored in the 13th minute Friday, allowing Portland to make a big move in the Western Conference with a 1-0 win over Colorado.

Portland (11-5-13) jumped past both Los Angeles and Colorado into third place in the West. The Timbers won for the second time in three games after going through a stretch in which they managed only one point in three contests. Portland had a 15-game unbeaten streak earlier this season.

Colorado (12-9-9) had won three out of four before suffering the shutout Friday. The Rapids are in fourth place in the conference, a point behind Portland and a point in front of Los Angeles.
