MLB: Chicago Cubs 3, Atlanta 1

CHICAGO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Dioner Navarro's go-ahead RBI single highlighted an eighth-inning rally Saturday that carried the Chicago Cubs over Atlanta 3-1.

The Braves were ahead 1-0 in the eighth inning and looking to clinch the National League East crown when Chicago struck for three runs.

Starlin Castro began the comeback with a one-out single off Braves starter Kris Medlen and pinch-hitter Donnie Murphy followed with another single off Scott Downs (2-1).

That brought up Anthony Rizzo, who laced a double into the left-field corner for a score-tying RBI.

Dave Carpenter took the mound, only to be greeted by Navarro's decisive RBI single to right.

Nate Schierholtz capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.

Carlos Villanueva (7-8) earned the decision and Pedro Strop notched his first save after Cubs starter Travis Wood had held the Braves to one run on five hits over seven innings.

Medlin yielded just one run on six hits over 7 1/3 innings for the Braves, whose magic number to claim the NL East remained at one.
