USA gets a break, beats New Zealand in America's Cup Race 13

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Oracle Team USA benefited from a penalty on Emirates Team New Zealand to win Race 13 Friday and stay alive in the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco Bay.

New Zealand captain Dean Barker and his crew were ahead late in the first attempt at Race 13 but were about 1 nautical mile from the finish line when the 40-minute time limit expired. Oracle Team USA took advantage of the break and won Race 13 by 1 minute, 24 seconds.
