NFL: Kansas City 26, Philadelphia 16

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Eric Berry's early 38-yard interception return highlighted an outstanding defensive show Thursday and ignited Kansas City to a 26-16 win over Philadelphia.

The result made for a successful return to Philadelphia for Kansas City Coach Andy Reid, whose 140 victories in 14 seasons were twice as many as anyone else had managed in the history of the Eagles.

Reid was let go at the end of the 2012 campaign and was quickly scooped up by the Chiefs.

Under Reid, Kansas City is unbeaten in three games. That gives the Chiefs one more win than they had during all of last season, when they established a franchise record for fewest points in a campaign (211).

Berry's touchdown on the interception return gave Kansas City a 10-0 lead just 3:48 into the contest. The Chiefs finished with two interceptions of Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick as well as five sacks. They also recovered three fumbles.

Kansas City frustrated Philadelphia even though the Eagles (1-2) managed 431 total yards, 158 of which came on 20 carries from LeSean McCoy. Vick completed just 13-of-30 passes for 201 yards.

The Chiefs played turnover free football, did not give up a first down by way of a penalty and got field goals of 33, 31, 34 and 38 yards from Ryan Succop. Kansas City's only offensive touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Jamaal Charles early in the fourth quarter that gave the Chiefs a 23-9 lead.

The game ended with the Chiefs killing the clock on the Philadelphia 14-yard line.

Alex Smith completed 22-of-35 passes for 273 yards to pace the Kansas City offense. Charles, who had two of the top three rushing performances in the NFL last season but scored only five touchdowns all year, gained 92 yards on 20 carries.
