LONDON, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Great Britain has returned to the Davis Cup World Group and will face the United States in the first round next year, Davis Cup officials announced Wednesday.

With Andy Murray leading the way, Great Britain defeated Croatia in the World Group Playoffs and earned a spot among the 16 teams that will contest for the 2014 Davis Cup. It is the first time in six years Great Britain is in the World Group.

The United States remained in the World Group with a first-round win over Brazil last February.

In the draw conducted Wednesday, it was determined Great Britain will go against the Americans in the United States in a first-round series Jan. 31-Feb 2. The United States is 11-7 in its Davis Cup series versus Great Britain but they haven't played each other since 1999.

Other 2014 Davis Cup first-round pairings have Switzerland playing at Serbia; the Netherlands visiting the Czech Republic; Canada going to Japan; Spain at Germany; Australia playing at France; Italy heading to Argentina and Belgium playing at Kazakhstan.

Serbia meets the Czech Republic, which is the defending Davis Cup champion, in the 2013 finals Nov. 15-17 in Belgrade, Serbia.
