Strong winds force postponement of America's Cup races

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Two scheduled America's Cup Final races pitting Oracle Team USA and Emirates Team New Zealand were postponed Tuesday due to strong winds.

Officials said Races 11 and 12, set for San Francisco Bay, were called off after winds of nearly 30 mph were recorded, well exceeding Tuesday's wind speed limit of 23 mph.

Instead, the races were rescheduled for Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. ET.

Challenger New Zealand leads Team USA 7-1 in the 34th America's Cup.

The first team to 9 points wins the regatta.
