PHOENIX, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Trevor Cahill tossed 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball Monday and Arizona rode a first-inning Paul Goldschmidt homer to a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cahill (7-10) yielded just two hits and overcame four walks en route to the victory, striking out four.

Josh Collmenter and David Hernandez combined for 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief but closer Brad Ziegler ran into trouble in the ninth.

Pinch-hitter Michael Young and Skip Schumaker delivered consecutive singles to start the inning, but Ziegler gunned down Young at third for the first out when Juan Uribe attempted a sacrifice bunt.

The runners moved up to second and third on a Nick Buss groundout, but pinch-hitter Matt Kemp struck out to end the game as Ziegler notched his 11th save.

Goldschmidt's homer was his 33rd for the Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-7) absorbed a complete-game loss despite yielding just the two runs on two hits. He walked one and struck out four National League West-leading Los Angeles, which dropped a fourth straight.
