Barcelona soccer club signs Swedish boy, 9, to academy

MALMO, Sweden, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The soccer club FC Barcelona signed a 9-year-old Swedish prodigy, Zico Marecaldi Jr., to its training academy, his family told a local newspaper.

"I am going on Wednesday, It's going to be great fun," Zico, of Malmo, told the Skanska Dagbladet of his admission to Fundacion Marect, an academy run by the team.

"Zico is going to board with all the others at the academy. This feels good. There he can get to know all his new friends," his father Antonio Marecaldi said.

Zico's father will join him in Barcelona, Spain, in four to five months, the Swedish news website TheLocal.se reported.
