MLB: San Francisco 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 2

Sept. 14, 2013 at 1:46 AM   |   Comments

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Brett Pill put San Francisco in front with a two-run single in the seventh Friday, rallying the Giants to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Despite the setback, Los Angeles saw its magic number for clinching the National League West trimmed to four when second-place Arizona fell to Colorado.

The Dodgers held a 2-0 lead when Hunter Pence, Pablo Sandoval, Joaquin Arias and Pill singled in succession to open the seventh against Clayton Kershaw (14-9).

The hit by Arias brought home one run and Pill's single delivered two more to put the Giants in front. Pence added a solo homer in the eighth.

Sergio Romo came on in the ninth to protect the two-run lead and gave up singles to Mark Ellis and Jerry Hairston to open the inning.

Romo then retired the next three batters for his 34th save.

San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner (12-9) got the win thanks to the Giants' rally. He gave up two runs on five hits in six innings. Kershaw lost for only the second time in his last seven starts.
