ATLANTA, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Kris Medlen notched his fourth win in four starts Saturday, tossing 7 1/3 shutout innings in the Atlanta Braves' 2-1 decision over San Diego.

Medlen (14-12) lowered his ERA to 3.32 with the performance, during which he scattered four hits, walked two and struck out five.

David Carpenter recorded the final two outs in the eighth and Craig Kimbrel racked up his 47th save despite allowing a solo homer to Chase Headley in the ninth.

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-3 with a bases-empty blast and Chris Johnson drove in a run for National League East-leading Atlanta, which evened its three-game series.

San Diego's Robbie Erlin (2-3) absorbed the loss, surrendering two hits on eight hits in a six-inning effort.
