INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 13 (UPI) --
The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday running back Vick Ballard has been lost for the season with a torn ligament in his right knee.
Ballard will undergo surgery to repair the damage.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Ballard was injured during Thursday's practice while making a cut. There was no contact with another player.
Ballard had 13 carries for 63 yards in the Colts' season-opening win over Oakland last Sunday. Ahmad Bradshaw and Donald Brown will now receive the bulk of the running back work for Indianapolis.
Bradshaw signed as a free agent this year after being released by the New York Giants. He has reached the 1,000-yard mark twice in his six-year career but was hampered by foot problems last season.
