TORONTO, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A ground-rule double by Mike Trout put Los Angeles in front in the fifth inning Thursday and the Angels held on to edge Toronto 4-3.
The Angels won their third in a row and have captured six out of eight.
Kole Calhoun hit a solo home run in the fourth to boost the Angels into a 3-3 tie and Los Angeles took the lead for good one inning later.
Los Angeles starter Garrett Richards (7-6) gave up nine hits, but held the Blue Jays to three runs over 6 2/3 innings to get the win.
Ernesto Frieri retired the first two men he faced in the ninth before giving up a double to Jose Reyes and walking Munenori Kasawaki at the end of a 10-pitch at-bat. Frieri then struck out Brett Lawrie to earn his 33rd save.
