Djokovic, coming off a loss Monday to Rafael Nadal in the U.S. Open finals, takes a career 22-7 Davis Cup record into the 2013 semifinals. He was 6-0 in singles matches when the Serbs won their first Davis Cup championship in 2010. Djokovic is 3-0 in Davis Cup play this year, having dropped one set and that in a tiebreaker.
The Friday-Sunday semifinal pitting Canada against Serbia is scheduled for a red clay court in the Belgrade Arena. The winner of the best-of-five series meets either defending champion Czech Republic or Argentina in the Nov. 15-17 Davis Cup final.
Serbia is seeking its second Davis Cup title while Canada is a semifinalist for a second time -- the first was 100 years ago -- and is trying to reach the finals for the first time.
Djokovic is matched against world No. 41 Vasek Pospisil in Friday's first singles match while Janko Tipsarevic, 23rd in the rankings, faces No. 11 Milos Raonic.
Serbs Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic are to go against Pospisil and Daniel Nestor in the doubles match Saturday. The marquee match of the series comes early Sunday when Djokovic draws Raonic to open reserve singles. Tipsarevic and Pospisil are to meet in the fifth match.
