SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A football fan plunged to his death Sunday at Candlestick Park during a San Francisco 49ers game, police said.

San Francisco police officer Gordon Shyy said the man fell from a pedestrian walkway at the start of a season-opening contest between the 49ers and Green Bay Packers, KPIX-TV, San Francisco, reported.

Shyy said the unidentified victim, a man in his 30s, was with his brother on the walkway when he fell and died of severe injuries.

The broadcaster reported several witnesses told police the man appeared to be intoxicated when the accident happened.
