BALTIMORE, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Scott Feldman threw the first shutout of his career Friday in carrying Baltimore to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Chris Davis hit his 48th home run, tops in the majors, helping the Orioles in their bid to earn a playoff berth. Baltimore began the night three games behind Tampa Bay for the second American League wild card spot.

Feldman (12-10) earned the shutout in his 127th start scattered over nine seasons, the first eight having been spent with Texas. This was his second complete game, both coming this year.

He gave up five hits, walked one, struck out three and dealt the White Sox their eighth straight loss.

Three of the Baltimore runs came on solo homers by Danny Valencia in the third, and by Davis and Matt Wieters in the sixth. Valencia also drove in a run with an infield single in the fifth.

John Danks (4-12) allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
