SEATTLE, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Lamar Neagle scored in the 24th minute Wednesday and Seattle overcame the absence of key players to defeat Chivas USA 1-0.

Seattle (13-8-4) won its third in a row and has six victories in its last seven outings, a streak that has moved the Sounders into a tie with Los Angeles for second place in the Western Conference

Obafemi Martins missed the game for Seattle due to injury while Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson are both with the U.S. national team as it prepares for a World Cup qualifying contest.

Neagle scored his sixth goal of the season off a free kick taken by Marc Burch.

Chivas (5-15-7) is firmly set in last place in the Western Conference, 12 points behind eighth-place San Jose. Chivas has just one win in its last seven games.
