MLB: Baltimore 3, Chicago White Sox 1

BALTIMORE, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Miguel Gonzalez gave up four hits in seven innings Thursday and ended a long victory drought in Baltimore's 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

J.J. Hardy and Brian Roberts both hit a solo homer in the fifth to put the Orioles in front and the Orioles held on to snap a two-game skid. The White Sox have lost seven in a row.

Gonzalez (9-7) had not won since July 20. He had made six starts and two relief appearances since then, but broke out of his slump by striking out six and walking only one.

Tommy Hunter protected the lead with one inning of relief and Jim Johnson came on to strike out two in the ninth for his 42nd save.

Adam Jones gave Baltimore the lead with his 30th homer in the first inning and Chicago tied it in the third with the run scoring on a double play grounder off the bat of Alejandro De Aza.

Jose Quintana (7-6) gave up all three Baltimore runs on seven hits over seven innings to take the loss.
