Matt Kenseth wrests Bristol Speedway win, clinches Chase spot

BRISTOL, Tenn., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Matt Kenseth collected his series-leading fifth win of the season Saturday, shaking off a penalty to claim the Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Kenseth was hit with a pit road speeding infraction but eventually overcame it and held off Kasey Kahne down the stretch to clinch a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Kenseth and Kahne were neck-and-neck over the final 12 laps, but the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was the first to the finish line by 0.2 seconds.

Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer are the only drivers who have so far claimed a playoff spot.

Taking third place was Juan Pablo Montoya, while Brian Vickers and Joey Logano rounded out the Top 5.

Current points leader Johnson finished 36th following a multi-car crash caused when Bowyer ran out of fuel on the last lap.
